Listening to radio stations from the Americas

ZYH503 Rádio Regional, Cicero Dantas, BA BRA 1320

Radio Regional Cicero Dantas 1320

ZYH503 Rádio Regional, Cicero Dantas, BA 1320 was heard in Lemmenjoki on November 7, 2013 with a TOH ID. Usually R Regional, Sobral in Ceará is heard here in addition to R Tropical of Curitiba, Paraná and CBN Foz do Iguacu, Paraná, tehese three being to most frequently reported Brazilians on this frequency in Scandinavia. I got a short FB message from Regional, Cicero dantas confirming my hearing.

HCRI5 La Voz de Guamote, Guamote (Chimborazo) EQA 1520

La Voz de Guamote 1520

Surprising Ecuadorian heard by several listeners in the Nordic countries during the good opening April 1-3. The station is transmitting from the city of Guamote which is the Capital of the Guamote canton in the Province of Chimborazo. The province has got it’s name from the “dead” volcano Chimborazo that reaches more than 6200 meters above sea level and is the highest mountain in Ecuador. La Voz de Guamote was heard with surprisingly strong signal on April 1, 2014 especially around 0330 UTC. Also heard on April 3. A nice FB confirmation arrived in a day.

OBU4T R Bacán SAT, Huancayo PRU 1320

Radio Bacan SAT 1320  Radio Bacan Huancayo_2 1320

On April 1-3.2014 propagation towards Perú and also Ecuador was good. One of the stations noticed was R Bacán SAT with transmitting from Huancayo on 1320. The exact split is ca 1319.945v and happens to be almost exactly the same split as R Perú in Juliaca. This time, on April 3 around 03 UTC,  Bacán SAT was reasonably strong with programming // with the more common Lima-region Bacán SAT on 1129.93v. A very nice reply was received promptly from Maribel Gonzales: a long letter and about 10 nice pictures. Mil gracias Maribel!!!

HJAX La Voz de Nostalgia, Medellín, CLM 1080

La Voz de la Nostalgia 1080

HJAX La Voz de Nostalgia 1080 was one of the many Medellín-stations audible on January 21, 2014. The station was periodically booming in with strong signals around 06 UTC with several “La Voz de Nostalgia – La Voz de los exitos” ids. A couple of months ago I received a message from the station asking for a mp3 from me with greetings from Finland about the catch. Also some other listeners in Finland got a similar message. The message could not be counted as a verification though. As a result of a recent f/up I received the message upon my verification request: “Muchas gracias!!! Sí señor, recibimos su reporte de sintonía.“. I count this as a verification on my report.

WJYP Saint Albans WV USA 1300

WJYP 1300

WJYP was a nice surprise to find on 1300. The station faded up just for a short while with  at that time (in February 2011) a Gospel format and the slogan “The Dove”. Nowadays the stion goes under the slogan “The Jock” and carries sports in parallell witgh it’s sister station WMON Mongomery on 1340. A short email confirmed my mp3 that also has been confirmed by e.g. Hannu Niilekselä, Håkan Sundman etc.

My rather long – three weeks – absence from this blog was due to Heidi’s and my trip to Atlanta GA where we visited our daughter Anna and her husband. We also had the opportunity to drive rather heavily in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana during this visit.

ZYK316 Rádio Charrua, Uruguaiana, RS BRA 1140

Radio Charrua 1140

Rádio Charrua was heard in Lemmenjoki during the LEM333 pedition in early November 2013. During the first half of November last year the cx was heavily influenced by proton storms making receptions towards the north of the Americas, i.e.,  USA/Canada and Mexico and even the northern parts of South America, almost impossible to hear.  With the exception of a couple of days almost all signals from the Americas heard originated from stations from the Brazilian states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul in addition to stations from Argentina and Uruguay.

Rádio Charrua was at the time of reception on November 3 completely alone on 1140 for some 20 minutes. No interference from the usually dominating Rádio Cultura da Bahia! The frequency is a very interesting one indeed but it is very rare to get IDs from any other Brazilian than Rádio Cultura that usually tends to fade up perfectly just in time for an ID.

I just received a nice confirmation of my hearing of R Charrua. Muito obrigado!

HJDI Radio Bolivariana, Medellín CLM 1110

R Bolivariana logo

R Bolivariana 1110 was one of the many stations from the Medellín area that was logged in Finland by quite a few listeners during the fabulous opening on January 21, 2014. The peak of the cx occured between 0550 and 0610 UTC.  With more than 200 verified stations from Colombia I was totally surprised to be able to pick five for me  new stations from this country during this opening. A rapid respons was received by FB.

HCSM5 Radio Santa María, Azogues EQA 1490

HCMS5 Radio Santa María

This station appears to have done something with its transmitter and/or pattern. It was heard in September-October 2013 with surprisingly strong signals at times. It has also been heard a several occasions since.  A FB message confirmed my report of early October 2013 here in my home QTH in Botgå.

HJJD NSE, Medellín, CLM 1380

NSE Medellín 1380

NSE – Radio Nuestra Señora del Encuentro con Dios was yet another station from Medellín that was heard during the superb opening on January 21, 2014 around 06 UTC. NSE totally dominated 1380 over Ondas del Mar for more than half an hour. A nice FB message from NSE’s HQ in Barcelona, Spain confirmed my mp3.

KOVE Lander WY USA 1330

KOVE LANDER WY 1330

Finally I took the time to send a message to KOVE heard in October 2012. I instantly received a very nice and long  e-mail from the station owner Joe Kenney. Joe tells, e.g.,  about his hobbies: “My hobbies include flying my 1946 Aeronca Champ airplane and driving and restoring old cars.  We have a 1953 Ford pickup, 1956 Ford Thunderbird, 1964 Corvette Stingray, 1967 Camaro, and a 1999 Corvette convertible.  We also love to explore the country around Lander in our Jeep looking for Indian arrowheads.  We have two Golden Retrievers, Murray and Toby, who love to explore in the Jeep, too.”. Thanks Joe!
