Listening to radio stations from the Americas

Las 40_1

Las 40_8

Las 40 on 1450,  has been heard a handful times in the Nordic countries. Probably the first logging in Finland was made during the LEM243 expedition (JEÖ&PÄ) in February 2007. I noticed the station again during LEM354 on February 24. No sign of the channels ARG dominant R El Sol, Quilmes, BA at that time. Las 40 carried Argentinian folklore programming and the identity was nailed by the YL ID “Música Argentina, AM Las 40, Folclórica de Argentina”.

Thanks to Henrik Klemetz, I rapidly got a confirmation from Andy Peredes, owner of the FM station Radio Activa San Juan on 88.7 FM and at the same time working at Las 40. Andy tells that the station´s effective power presently  is 7 kW which is one explanation that the station has been heard recently (WRTH2015 lists the power to 1/0,25 kW!). Andy also mentions, that the station started it’s transmissions on April 2, 2001 on both 140 and FM 105.1. Andy is married and has two daughters aged 10 and 4. He included some 40 pictures of the station, of the city and of his family. Muchisimas gracias por su amabilidad Andy!

L---- Estación 1550

Estación 15-50 was logged in Lemmenjoki last february during my LEM354 expedition. The station was heard with a pretty weak signal. After quite some listening to the recordings from February 25 I found an ID at 0301 UTC “”Desde Buenos Aires, transmíte AM 1550 Estación 15-50”. The station was carrying football programming for the local Club Atlético Huracán. Sergio Correa confirmed my submitted audio. He tells that R Urkupiña changed it’s name to Estacíón 15-50 a year ago. R Urkupiña has been reported heard once in Finland on it’s old frequency 1510 by LEM230 in late September 2006.Gracias Sergio!

L---- Radio Dime 1420

R Dime 1420 “su mejor estación” was heard with a nice signal on February 22, 2015 during LEM354. The station was first logged in Finland during LEM224 in 2006 by PÄ and myself under it’s former name “La Marea”. In contrast to neighboring frequencies 1430 and 1440, 1420 is a troublesome one with regards to signals from the La Plata region. In the past the “dominant” LP station was the Uruguay-station R Lavalleja, a station that has not been heard for many, many years. R Guyrá Campana in Paraguay has been logged once in Lemmenjoki. During the last couple of years, however, R AM 1420 or “Radio Dime” has been on the top. After som f/ups I received a confirmation on my mp3 of February 22, 2015 from Daniel Soria: “Hola Jan Erik. Soy Daniel Soria, uno de los periodistas de la emisora. Muchas gracias por tu envió. Es muy grato saber que a tanta distancia nos pueden sintonizar. Hemos recibido tu audio en MP3. Un abrazo para toda tu familia.“. Mil gracias Daniel!!!

FrenteLocalFedeturYRadioAM1440

Radio Fedetur was surprisingly heard on 1440 on February 22 in Lemmenjoki with an YL id “Radio Fedetur AM 1440” followed by a commercial announcement for Cafetería El Faro in Mar de Ajó.The city is a coastal city in the Province of Buenos Aires in the southern end of the seaside La Costa Partido district.

The station was inagurated in September 2014 and during the test transmissions it’s signal was found to reach some 200-250 km from the transmitter site, all the way to Tandil and Chascomús. Radio Fedetur is a service of Federación de Turismo and the station carries the slogan “Turismo es todo si!” The President of Federación de Turismo, Silvio Bageneta kindly confirmed my reception. Mil gracias Silvio! Thanks also to Henrik Klemetz for solving this “unlisted” mystery!

Radio Vida AM 1490

Radio AM Vida  “Una Radio que transmíte Vida” faded surprisingly upp among Brazilian stations on 1490 during LEM354 on February 22, 2015. The station gave the ID by a locutora “Radio AM Vida, AM 1490, una radio que transmíte Vida”. A nice confirmation was received from pastor Carlos Pérez (LU7HCA) who also included his ham QSL!

L--- Radio Imagen 1710

Radio Imagen was heard with a relatively good signal on 1710 during LEM345 in late October. Especially during one of the pedition’s few trans-Atlantic openings October 21,  Radio Imagen was heard back and forth during several hours, not as well as neighboring Radio Rubi on 1670 but anyway. Mika Mäkeläinen visited the station during his trip to Falkland Islands and Buenos Aires some months ago and met the station’s CE who also confirmed my hearing via FB with a nice message. He also promised to send a “Certificado” via ordinary mail.

L--- R CUNUMMI GUASU 1430

This station was heard on  the approximate split of 1429.72v during the recent LEM345-pedition to Lemmenjoki in late October 2014. The dominant Argentinian here is R San Nicholas, but no sign of this now. Jari Ruohomäki (JPR) caught Cunumí Guasú already on August 19, 2013 and I got v/s hints from Jari that instantly worked! Thanks Jari for my ARG-QSL #150! Time might be running out to catch 200!

L.... AM Trece-70 1370

This Argentinian is every now and then audible in the Nordic countries on 1370. The frequencies most common stations in the Nordic countries during southerly cx are Brazilian R Iguatemi, Sao Paulo and the URG-station R Ciudad de Montevideo. I have heard R Trece 70 a handful time during different LEM-peditions but it was not until recently I got a confirmation. Thanks Arnstein Bue (ABU) for your help!

Radio Rubi_2 1670

Radio Rubi, Rafael Castillo, BA was heard for the first time in Scandinavia on May 24, 2013 by Hasse Mattison in Sweden (thanks for the info Gert Nilsson, GN!) and on May 25 simultaneously by a bunch of DXers. Henrik Klemetz helped these first-time loggers to also get a confirmation of their hearing. Since that time R Rubi has been among the most common X-band Argentinian, maybe together with Guabiyú 1610, R AM 16-20 1620 and R Diagonal 1630v. I sent a new reception report to Radio Rubi heard in Lemmenjoki during LEM333 last November and this time I was lucky to receive a confirmation from Gladis Bazan. Gracias!

Radio Libre 890

I heard Radio Libre during LEM307 on October 28 2011 in a mess of the common LV11 Emisora Santiago del Estero and two Brazilians of which one was R Tamandaré, Recife and the other one Clube AM, Brasilia – the two most commonly logged ones here on 890- Except for LV11 and Libre, there is one more Argentinian that is on my most wanted list: LU33 Emisora Pampeana in Santa Rosa (La Pampa) that, as far as I know, has been heard only once in the Nordic countries – by Jari Ruohomäki (JPR) almost 30 years ago in 1985! The stations pattern appears to be extremely unfavorable for us.

Radio Libre was heard giving it’s email address “am890.com.ar” in connection to a call-in music program. A FB message and an email confirmed my hearing. Thanks Jari Ruhomäki for the v/s hint. Gracias Miguel Bandin y Nora Richardi!
