This station was a surprise on a difficult frequency, namely 800. A frequency dominated by MEC in Rio de Janeiro during cx towards La Plata and Brasil and TWR Bonaire during more northerly cx. This tends , at least for me, to mostly “skip over the frequency” when searching for something new. In early February 2011 I heard a station in Lemmenjoki heavily disturbed by TWR which turned out to be R Maria transmitting from Vina del Mar in Chile. Fortunately María carried an id also including the magical word “Chile”. During the time of reception I also heard, e.g., R Cooperativa, Valparaíso on 730 and BBN R, Vina del Mar (note, NOT Bogotá!) during a short and selective opening towards the middle coastal of Chile. I just recently got a short Facebook confirmation of this encounter with Radio Maria. Interestingly enough, Hannu Niilekselä managed to catch R María in El Salvador on 800 a couple of years ago. This shows that no frequency should be left non-scrutinized. Magic happens! Thanks Henrik Klemetz and Jari Ruohomäki for listening to my audio of this rare station from Chile.
KHJ Los Angeles “La Ranchera 9-30” surprised with a nice signal on October 25, 2012 during LEM319 completely alone on the frequency which is unusal, taking into account “powerhouses” such as especially CJCA Edmonton but also KSEI Pocatello ID during cx towards the Mountain states of the US . Winter Horton, COO, Liberman Broadcasting, Inc confirmed my reception rapidly. Thanks Winter for your confirmation.
On February 25, 2013 during the LEM330 pedition I managed to hear HJFX Radio Cóndor, Manizales around 05 UTC. Henrik Klemetz digged out some useful program details. The station announced it will play Rahmaninov’s “concierto para piano y orquestra Nro. 2” as part of the program Concierto de la Medianoche. Henrik also had the contact info to Directora Ana Maria Mesa and she verified my audio file in half an hour. This became my second verified Colombian on 1540, I previously got Radio Austral in Túquerres in the 90’s. Cóndor also became my verified Colombian #200! Thanks Henrik again for invaluable help. Gracias Ana Maria por su respuesta!
I have been hunting for LT2 Radio General Madariaga in the Province of Corrientes for decades without success. Earlier in the 70’s and 80’s the most common Argentinian, even though also a difficult one, was Radio Bahía Blanca. Nowadays LV9 Radio Salta is by far the most common Argentinian on 840 and tend to be very strong during cx off the Greater Buenos Aires area. Salta is located in the northwestern corner of Argentina bordering in the north to Bolivia and in the west to Chile. Corrientes again is located in the northeastern corner of the country bordering to Paraguay.
LT12 was heard in Finland already in 1974 by Roland Sandberg (RS) and in 1985 by JPR according to lists. In Lemmenjoki LT12 phaded up only for a short while over R Salta in October 2010. I recently received a confirmation of my reception and now the only Argentinian on 840 missing in my collection is Radio General Belgrano in Buenos Aires. This station was heard together with Pertti Äyräs during LEM317 in February 2012, as we believe fpr the first time in Finland. Since, Jari Ruohomäki (JPR), has heard General Belgrano and he also managed to get a QSL, something I have not yet succeeded with yet.
Rádio Paiqueré, Londrina, PR was one of my nicest Brazilian catches in October 2010 in Lemmenjoki fading up over Argentinian LS1 R de la Ciudad of Buenos Aires with a decent signal. 1110 usually offers only LS1 during southerly conditions. If I call correctly only two other Brazilians has been logged on 1110 in Scandinavia before: R Tabajará, Joao Pessoa, PB logged many times in the 70’s and R Litoral, Cascavel, CE. R Paiqueré confirmed my report with a short notice via Facebook.
Radio Kalikanto, formerly known as R Onda Cero, is one of the most commonly heard Peruvians on the upper part of the AM band in Scandinavia. Usually with a somewhat distorted signal on a slight split of 1640 the station seems to be transmitting irregularly now a days (?) since rumors about that the station license has been revoked has been mentioned. Torolf Johnsson was probably one of the first in Scandinavia to note this station in 2009, and the identity was nailed by Henrik Klemetz, once again.
I have logged the station several times here in my home QTH in Biorgå.
Radio La Cronica is not a very unusual peruvian on the AM band. Have logged this several times here in my home QTH in southern Finland on 1320 with short antennas. The station was a pretty usual peruvion on 9520v kHz in the 31 m.b. especially during the 60’s and 70′ but was also logged in the 90’s here before closing down on SW. Pertti Äyräs logged the station first in Finland in 1963. Radio La Cronica is the sister station to Radio Nacional del Perú and belongs to Instituto Nacional de Radio y Televisión del Perú (RTP).
When I last heard the station in September 2012 it also carried the “Radio La Cronica” id. After some trials I recently received a nice email confirmation from Francisco Mejorada Chauca, Jefe de Programación. Mil gracias Francisco!
I heard Cadena Eco on 1220 in late January 2008 carrying a soccer game including the team Vélez Sarsfield that compete in Argentina’s Primera División. I have tried several times to get this rare Argentinian verified. Finally it succeeded via Facebook. Thanks Jari Ruohomäki för help with the v/s. Gracias Flavio!
CW54 Emisora del Este in Minas is a quite rare catch here on 1580, a frequency that seldom gives any other SA-stations than the ones from Colombia and Venezuela. CW158 R San Salvador has been logged a couple of times in Scandinavia but also this station is a rare one, not to mention the many listed stations in Argentina. Emisora del Este was heard both during LEM 290 in 2010 and during LEM 319 in 2012. Thanks to Jari Ruohomäki I got a fresh v/s that rapidly confirmed my reception report. Thanks JPR!
1490 is for some reason a rather tricky frequency for Brazilian loggings in Northern Europe. During the last couple of years the mos commonly logged has been Rádio Onda Viva, Araguari, MG on its clear split above 1490. But also Onda Viva is pretty difficult. Rádio Cultura, Xaxim, SC has been logged in Lemmenjoki by at least Jari Ruohomäki and myself during the last years. Xaxim is a town and municipality in the state of Santa Catarina located some 600 km west of the State’s Capital Florianópolis close to the boarder of Argentina. Rádio Cultura started broadcasting in 1960 and carries 2000 watts day and 250 watts nigh. A short message of confirmation was receives recently from Gerencia Administrativa, Rádio Cultura Xaxim.
