This for me most wanted PRG station was heard during LEM354 on February 25 with a good signal and without interference from the normally dominating MEC in Rio de Janeiro. During the more than an hour the station was heard the program consisted both of music and of football. The station identified itself as “Radio La Unión R800 amplitud modulada”. A nice FB message confirmed my reception. This became my verified PRG station # 20!
After many months I surprisingly got a short message via Facebook thanking for my reports on RPP Chiclayo 870, RPP Pilcamayo 1140.250 and RRP Tumbes 1290. Chiclayo and Tumbes were logged in Lemmenjoki, Pilcamayo in my home QTH in Borgå.
R Novo Tempo came in with astonishing signal as the lone station on 1080 on February 20 at 06 UTC during LEM 354 with no interference from , e.g., European stations! The station has been heard at least once before in Finland in Lemmenjoki by Jim Solatie and Jari Ruohomäki a couple of years ago. Steve Miranda – Secretário confirmed my reception by a short email.
Rádio Mais was heard during a good opening towards the southern states of Brazil on February 22, 2015. The station has been heard in the Nordic region every now and then but is definitely not the dominant SA on this frequency. R Rural, Porto Alegre is the QRG’s definite dominant and also R Tupinambá, Sobral, CE is a more frequently logged station here. In addition both Argentinian Emisora Santiago y Copla and La Deportiva, Lambaré, Paraguay have been logged several times during the last year. I received a short confirmation via Facebook. Thanks for the hint Gert Nilsson!
On February 22 Radio Amiga in Talca was heard in Lemmenjoki at it’s close down ID at 0501 UTC. Talca, situated in Central Chile some 250 km south of Santiago is the Capital of the 7th Region Maule. It was interesting to observe that R Amiga appeared just before the lower part of the AM band started to loose strength. The frequency is an interesting one, especially what comes to Brazil . Some more common stations to be heard in the Nordic countries are, e.g., argentinian R Universidad Nacional del Litoral, R Ñanduti in Asunción (1020.1v) together with the Brazilian station in Potro Alegre. A nice confirmation was received by Roberto Ramos Vega, Programador de la Radio. Gracias Roberto!
Radio Fedetur was surprisingly heard on 1440 on February 22 in Lemmenjoki with an YL id “Radio Fedetur AM 1440” followed by a commercial announcement for Cafetería El Faro in Mar de Ajó.The city is a coastal city in the Province of Buenos Aires in the southern end of the seaside La Costa Partido district.
The station was inagurated in September 2014 and during the test transmissions it’s signal was found to reach some 200-250 km from the transmitter site, all the way to Tandil and Chascomús. Radio Fedetur is a service of Federación de Turismo and the station carries the slogan “Turismo es todo si!” The President of Federación de Turismo, Silvio Bageneta kindly confirmed my reception. Mil gracias Silvio! Thanks also to Henrik Klemetz for solving this “unlisted” mystery!
Radio AM Vida “Una Radio que transmíte Vida” faded surprisingly upp among Brazilian stations on 1490 during LEM354 on February 22, 2015. The station gave the ID by a locutora “Radio AM Vida, AM 1490, una radio que transmíte Vida”. A nice confirmation was received from pastor Carlos Pérez (LU7HCA) who also included his ham QSL!
La Deportiva is a relatively new station on 1120 which is normally heavily dominated by R Rural in Porto Alegre. La Deportiva is transmitting from the city of Lambaré which is located in the greater Asunción metropolitan area. It is the 6th klargest city in Paraguay with some 150.000 inhabitants. La Deportiva was probably first heard in Finland by Pertti Äyräs and myself in October 2014 during our LEM345 pedition. When I logged it on October 24 it carried a football game between the Paraguayan team Deportivo Capiatá and the Argentinian team Boca Juniors played at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires. A confirmation on my mp3 was received today: “Muchísimas gracias por el contacto desde esa tierra tan lejana. El audio corresponde a nuestra radio”. Big thanks to Henrik Klemetz (HK) for listening and clarifying some details of my hearing.
Radio Magdalena was heard with good signal on October 24, 2014 in Lemmenjoki. The station is quite regularly heard on 1420 in Finland as is Vida AM in Manizaleas. Magdalena was first logged in Finland in January 1987 and the first reported QSL from the station was received by Pekka Kostiainen (PK), then under the name Caracol Santa Marta, in 1993. During the last couple of years the station has re-taken the old name R Magdalena which is nice. I personally wish that all HJ-stations belonging to the big chains Caracol, RCN and Colmundo etc would to the same.
Surprisingly I found that I never had reported Caracol Santa Marta even though I have heard it several times both in Lapland and in my home QTH so now I sent a report to R Magdalena and received a confirmation.
During a good Brazil-opening on November 6, 2013 (LEM333) Rádio Pitaguary was heard with a nice TOH id on 1340. Jari Ruohomäki (JPR) was the first one to catch this in October 2007 and the station has been logged every now and then since then. 1340 is not the easiest frequency for Brazilians. However, a few other stations have been logged during the past 10 years, such as CBN Porto Alegre RS and R Clube de Sâo Luis MA. In the 60’s and 70’s 1340 used to be the home of R Guaraní, Belo Horizonte, MG which in those days was one of the most common AM Brazilian stations. Guaraní nowadays resides on 1190 where it is a very rare catch.
I received a FB message from Pitaguary.
