R Feliz in Santo Antônio de Pádua, RJ was suprisingly heard in Sarvsalö, in the Borgå archipelago in my friend John Hjort´s summer QTH, on May 26, 2016. That date the cx were truly interesting. Around 0040 UTC some frequencies were waking up and at around 01 UTC the band was filled with Brazilians on almost every 10 frequency between 1250 and 1600!. After analyzing the recordings it became apparent, that the cx around 01 UTC was centered around the state of Rio de Janeiro and neighboring Sâo Paulo and Minas Gerais. This is very unusual in Finland. Normally specific cx towards Brazil hits the Northern states RN, CE, PB, PE or the Southern states RS, SC and PR, the latter especially in Lapland.
May 26, 2016 gave three very uncommon RJ-stations, namely R Feliz 1450, Super R Tupi, Rio Bonito 1340 and Resende AM, Resende 1580. In the case of Feliz and Resende AM only the call letters ZYJ503 and ZYJ506, respectively, were clearly identified. A confirmation on my mp3 audio to R Feliz was received yesterday. On 1450 the most common Brazilians in Finland during the last few years have been ZYI561 Radio Paraense AM, Castanhal PA and ZYJ822 R Hulha Negra, Criciúma SC. Thanks to Henrik Klemetz and Jari Ruohomäki for confirming the station identity.

Rádio Camboriú was heard during LEM367 on February 13, 2016 with a TOH-id aroun d 23 UTC. A FB message confirmed my reception. The first logging in Finland of this station was made by Mika Mäkerläinen and Jim Solatie in early March 2010 during their LEM291-pedition in Lemmenjoki.

This frequency is an interesting indeed for fans of Brazil DX. Even though the channel holds many stations only a few have been heard in Finland. The most common is perhaps R Princesa da Serra, Itabaiana, SE followed by Rádio Gerais, Belo Horizonte (former Rádio Cultura). Rádio Cassino in Rio Grande, RS has, however, been heard several times in Lemmenjoki during the last few years. My own logging is from “the super night” February 25, 2015 during LEM354 when it was fading up and down for several hours as the only Brazilian station even though close to 30 stations are listed! My audio mp3 was confirmed by a nice email from Julio Cezar Pedrozo, Diretor Geral.
ZYK678 R Hertz, Franca, SP was surprisingly phading up over R Pampa, Porto Alegre, RS on February 22 during LEM354. A short FB message conmfirmed my reception. Rádio Hertz, according to the station, is considered as the third oldest in the interior of Brazil, the tenth to be installed in the country and the second oldest in the state of São Paulo. As far as I know, the station has npot been heard in the Nordic countries prior to my logging last February.
R Difusora, Mossoró RN was heard in Lemmenjoki on 1170 on October 26, 2011 with a surprisingly good signal for some minutes. Even though no definite ID the local PSA doesn’t cast any doubts on the identity. Even though the frequency holds close to 20 Brazilians only a couple have been heard in the Nordics. Even the most common Brazilian here, R Atalaia, Curitiba, PR is a quite rare catch here. I sent a f/up to Mossoró some time ago and today Emerson Linhares. Diretor de Jornalismo e Programação confirmed my hearing. Muito obrigado Emerson!
Rádio Correio do Vale, Itaporanga, PB has emerged as one of this frequencies most common Brazilian during the last couples of years. Lying a little bit below the nominal frequency. A nice confirmation was received on my February 25, 2015 report and a lengthy conversation with the station followed. According to them, they also own the PB-stations R Educadora on 710 and R Difusora Cajazeiras on 1070, the latter of which has been heard a handful times here in Finland. R Restauracão, Caruarú, PE is this frequencies other “common” Brazilian nowadays.
R Cultura, Alfenas MG was heard during LEM354 on 1180 in a crowd of Brazilian stations on February 25, 2015. Surprisingly, the usual dominant R Mundial, Rio was almost absent and gave place for many interesting signals. In addition to Cultura also, e.g., R Guri, Lages, SC was noted a couple of minutes after. R Cultura was heard a couple of times already in the mid 90’s on it’s former frequency 1570. The first logging in Finland was made by Jarmo Havukunnas (JHU) in spring 1995. A nice FB message confirmed my recent report.
R Difusora, Ituiutaba, MG has lately surprisingly often surfaced on “the golden frequency” 1470. Today I received a confirmation on two reports to the station, one from LEM345 in October 2014 and one from LEM354 in February 2015. This became my QSL # 35 from Central and South American stations transmitting on 1470! R Difusora was probably heard for the first time in Finland by Pertti Äyräs on October 15, 2014. It is rather surprising that this station has surfaced during the last half year here in the north after having been transmitting on 1470 since 1959! Something has happened with their transmitter site and/or pattern? When I heard it in February it wast the strongest of the Brazilians simultaneously on the frequency. The other identified were R Papacaca, Bom Conselho, PE and R Rural de Parelhas, RN. Other more or less common Brazilians in the Nordic countries are, e.g., R Guanacés de Itapajé CE and R Record, São José, SC.
ZYK358 Rádio Metrópole, Cachoeirinha, RS is nowadays together with Emissora ABC, SP the most common Brazilian on 1570, a frequency which has been and still is, a very good Brazil frequency here in the Nordic countries. Mertrópole has been logged in Lemmenjoki many times since Pertti Äyräs and myself heard it during LEM317 in February 2012. After several attempts I finally received a confirmation (via FB) on my report taken during LEM354 in February 2015. All in all 26 Brazilians are listed on 1570 of which some 15 have been logged in Finland!
R Novo Tempo came in with astonishing signal as the lone station on 1080 on February 20 at 06 UTC during LEM 354 with no interference from , e.g., European stations! The station has been heard at least once before in Finland in Lemmenjoki by Jim Solatie and Jari Ruohomäki a couple of years ago. Steve Miranda – Secretário confirmed my reception by a short email.
