Listening to radio stations from the Americas

Category Archives: Brazil

Radio Charrua 1140

Rádio Charrua was heard in Lemmenjoki during the LEM333 pedition in early November 2013. During the first half of November last year the cx was heavily influenced by proton storms making receptions towards the north of the Americas, i.e.,  USA/Canada and Mexico and even the northern parts of South America, almost impossible to hear.  With the exception of a couple of days almost all signals from the Americas heard originated from stations from the Brazilian states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul in addition to stations from Argentina and Uruguay.

Rádio Charrua was at the time of reception on November 3 completely alone on 1140 for some 20 minutes. No interference from the usually dominating Rádio Cultura da Bahia! The frequency is a very interesting one indeed but it is very rare to get IDs from any other Brazilian than Rádio Cultura that usually tends to fade up perfectly just in time for an ID.

I just received a nice confirmation of my hearing of R Charrua. Muito obrigado!

ZYI693 R Rural 850

AM 850 is for some reason a very difficult frequency for Brazilian loggings.  During both the expeditions of LEM294 in October 2010 and LEM307 in October 2011 I heard Rádio Rural in Guarariba, PB. In October 2011 also Rádio Cultura from the same city in Paraíba was heard on 790, another difficult Brazilian frequencia. I finally managed to receive a FB confirmation where they asked for pictures from Borgå to be put up on their blog http://www.nordeste1.com.

Radio Barigui 1560

R Barigui was heard during LEM317 together with Pertti Äyräs  in early February 2012. The station was lying on a clear split below 1560, a situation  also observed by at least Jari Ruohomäki amonth earlier. After many trials I finally got a superb FB message telling me “Sim!Obrigado!” on my question if my message had reach them! Not easy today to get answers from stations….

Radio Caicara 1020

R Caiçara, Porto Alegre, RS belongs to Rede Pampa de Comunicacão and used to transmit on 1020 AM up to November 1, 2013 when it switched to 780. The station was not an easy catch on 1020. I heard it during LEM330 in early March 2013 and at least Jari Ruohomäki and Pertti Äyräs have heard it earlier. A nice confirmation was received recently.

Radio Cultura Pelotas 1320

Rádio Cultura, Pelotas, RS has been logged a few times in Scandinavia on 1320, a frequency holding quite a few Brazilians logged every now and then. The most common here is probably R Tropical, Curitiba PR followed by R Regional in Sobral, CE and CBN Foz do Iguacu, PR.  My report of R Cultura was confirmed by a nice Facebook message.

Radio Jaraguá 1010

The dominating Brazilians on 1010 are the ones of the northern states of Brazil Bahía and Ceará, namely R Bahía, Salvador and CBN, Fortaleza. R Celinauta, Pato Branca, PR has been logged a handful times and one or two more. One belonging to the last category is R Jaraguá transmitting from Jaraguá do Sul in the southern state of Santa Catarina. The station was heard during a short but sharp opening towards Santa Catarina, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul on November 3, 2013 during LEM313.

Radio Cultura 790

This frequency is a difficult one for Brazilian loggings, mainly due to the presence of R Mitre in Buenos Aires but also because most of the stations here carry rather low powers to be on the lower part of the AM band. Rádio Cultura, Guarariba was heard during the LE307 pedition on October 26, 2011. Simultaneously Rádio Rural also in Guarariba was heard on 850!

A short note via Facebook confirmed my mp3 yesterday. Muito obrigado Rádio Cultura!

Radio Colmeia 650

Rádio Colméia was the maybe best catch during a very good opening towards the southern states of Brazil on November 3, 2013 during LEM333. Free from R Uno of Asunción, Paraguay the frequency hold two Brazilians of which on e was this, the other one remained unidentified. Jari Ruohomäki has logged R Difusão Sul Riograndense, Erechim RS here otherwise 650 is seldomly open towards Brazil here in the north.

Taynah Tiem rapidly confirmed my hearing with a short email. Muito obrigado Taynah!

Radio Hulha Negra 1450

Rádio Hulha Negra on 1450 has been heard now and then but is definitely not an easy catch as is no BRA on 1450. Jari Ruohomäki was probably the first to log this in Finland and Ole Forr in Scandinavia a little bit earlier some 5-6 years ago if my aging memory is correct. I have heard the station a couple of times since my first logging on January 28, 2008 during PÄ’s and mine LEM258 pedition.

Cricúma  is a city  in the state of Santa Catarina located 180 km south of Florianópolis and some 900 km south of São Paulo. The city is the center of Brazil’s flooring and home materials industry, and is the second-largest such center in the world.

I have sent several reports by email to Rádio Hulha Negro without response. Finally, a week ago a Facebook message arrived telling me that my previous messages had been regarded as spams with the included mp3 and photos. Maybe it is worthwhile to report stations without files that throw them into the trash can? Anyway a most wanted response from my BRA QSL # 11 on 1450!

Radio Cidade Palmital 1190

Rádio Cidade, Palmital, PR 1190 was a new Brazilian logging for me on October 25, 2012 during the LEM319 pedition. There are two Rádio Cidade on 1190 but fortunately they have different prefixes which made the identification easy. During cx towards Brazil and La Plata the king on the frequency is without doubt R América in Buenos Aires. América makes Brazilian loggings from the southern states Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul quite challenging. The mostly heard BRA on 1190 in Scandinavia is R Juazeiro in the State of Bahía followed by R Rio Vermelho in the State of Goias. There are close to 20 BRA stations listed on 1190 so it is a most interesting frequency to watch closely!

I  am pretty slow in reporting stations nowadays since I find it less interesting than listening live and to the wast amount of files that never will be scrutinized to the point. However, I some days ago sent a mp3 to Rádio Cidade and it was rapidly confirmed. More info about the station can be found at http://www.radiopalmital@bol.com.br.
